Here it goes...

As a starter, I want to introduce the Mission of the Peace Corps

To promote world peace and friendship by fulfilling three goals:
-To help the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women

-To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served
-To help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans

While I will be working hard on the first 2 goals, I am going to need YOU (any readers, family, and friends) to help me with the third goal. You can do that by subscribing to my blog, posting comments, asking questions, writing me, and even coming to visit and experience what life is really like! I am going to need the help and support of everyone through this life changing process :)

Timeline of my process in applying for the Peace Corps

May 2012-Started application

July 2012-Application sent
August 2012-Nominated for service
October 2012-Completed pre-service medical clearance
August 2013-Received my invitation to serve in Panama
December 2013-Final medical clearance
February 2014- Service Begins

So more than a year after applying, I finally received my invitation to serve as a Community Environmental Conservation (CEC) agent in Panama. The purpose of the CEC project is to work with Panamanians (especially children, youth, and partner agencies) to build capacities that promote a reduced
negative impact on the environment. The project will aim to help these groups to gain skills and to promote individual and collective efforts at achieving and maintaining equilibrium between quality of life and quality of the environment. Some projects include: water restoration, community gardens, more eco-friendly fire stoves, trash management, and organic farming.

I am now less than 2 weeks away before I leave and couldn't be more excited and nervous! The situation is becoming less surreal as I say my good-byes to my beloved family and friends. I will miss you all but am looking forward to sharing my stories.
