About me

A recent UC Berkeley graduate who is trying to find her niche in the environmental sector. A lover of animals, helping others, traveling, and new experiences. My experiences and adventures vary from helping create a school garden for children in Nicaragua, moving to Washington on a whim to teach environmental education, and studying animal welfare issues in Oregon.

Why Peace Corps?

I have always had an interest in serving in the Peace Corps. To some people, it sounds like a free way to travel and boost your resume. To others, it sounds like a modern form of imperialism and getting into danger. Why would anyone want to live in a foreign country for two years with no electricity or running water and running the risk of getting malaria? Because to me, that sounds like the most eye-opening experience ever. There is so much that the world does not understand about itself, and I believe the Peace Corps is an organization that immerses people in  cultures, ideas, religions, and traditions. Americans especially take their possessions and conveniences for granted. I believe everyone should be required to participate in a program like the Peace Corps, or go abroad, or volunteer somewhere foreign. I am going to make the best of this experience as a mission to learn, overcome challenges, better understand people, and promote sustainability- all while representing my own culture and values as an American citizen.
